Follow the steps for Shikaku

Try Shikaku at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Cover the board with non-overlapping rectangles, each containing one clue equal to its area. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Look at what changes after your first action.

Solve ten 5×5 rectangle puzzles. Each clue belongs to exactly one rectangle of the stated area.

Something to practise

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Make the next step deliberately.

What counts as success

Cover the board with non-overlapping rectangles, each containing one clue equal to its area. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Making your moves

  1. Choose a rectangle’s opposite corners.
  2. It must contain one clue and have the matching area.
  3. Click an existing rectangle to remove it.
  4. Cover every square to finish.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

See the idea in action

A clue 6 may occupy a 2×3 rectangle when other clues allow it. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Read the matching step again.

Where a round can go wrong

No rectangle may contain two clues or overlap another. Compare the situation with the worked example. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
